Belvoir Locals Oppose Turbines

Public Rights of Way

The fields that the turbines are to be sited in are adjacent to a popular recreational area. Activities including dog walking, fishing, football at the Gedling Town ground, various activities at the Poplars and the Ferry Boat Inn will be compromised by the wind farm. This land and the public who use it will be continually in the shadow of massive industrial machinery.

There have been various instances of ice shearing off the turbine blades and the occasional collapse of blade turbines. Not good news when we will be so close to them.

It is important to note that a turbine manufacturer (Vestas) specifies that their engineers should avoid going within 400m of a turbine, for reasons of health and safety.

The following statement is a direct quotation from the operating handbook of Vesta, one of the leading manufacturers of wind turbines installed in the UK.

“Do not stay within a radius of 400m (1300ft) from the turbine unless it is necessary. If you have to inspect an operating turbine from the ground, do not stay under the rotor plane but observe the rotor from the front.” (Section 2 of the Vestas “Mechanical Operating and Maintenance Manual”)

“Make sure that children do not stay by or play nearby the turbine.” (Section 2 of the Vestas “Mechanical Operating and Maintenance Manual”)

Both the Poplars Sports Ground and the River Trent itself lie within 400m from the turbines.
